7.3 magnitude earthquake in Kermanshah, Iran

An earthquake in 7.3 magnitude was occurred on 12 November 2017 in Kermanshah, Iran. It was recorded that this was happened in the border of Iran and Iraq and at the depth of 11 km, and more than 1000 aftershocks were registered.

Due to the mentioned disaster, 505 persons were died and the number of injured population was reported 15000 people.

The Iranian disaster management organizations responded emergency and fortunately, they could maintain the affected population in an acceptable situation. Following the earthquake, seven members team of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) affiliated to the Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education, moved to the affected area immediately. They were located in different provinces as EOC presidents and started to coordination. One of the first action was injured population data gathering including the clients' status and the hospital name which had been admitted them. Also, in the Kermanshah airport, two members checked the identity of all persons that were appointed to transport to another cities. These data were sending to the EOC centralized in Ministry of Health, concurrently.

In the second day after earthquake, EOC presidents moved to Eslamabad, Sarpol-e Zahab, Ghasre Shirin, Gilangharb and Salas Babajani provinces to facilitate necessary processes and coordinate the inter- and intra-organization communication.

During the field assessment, EOC members visited the health facilities status and evaluated the effect of earthquake on them. Unfortunately, a hospital and two health centers located in Sarpol-e Zahab were destroyed and these could not have any services to the affected population. Eslamabad-e Gharb new hospital was damaged completely, too.

EOC team started to assessment of the outdoor hospitals in the field of Sarpol-e Zahab and Salas Babajani provinces to continue disaster management in the health branch.
